"Can I please have all girls come down to the auditorium, immediately? Thank you."

The principal's voice rang throughout the empty hallways and into the student-filled classrooms. The teachers stopped to hear the announcement. They were confused, in fact, everyone was. But most curious of all, was fifteen year old Phoebe Nelson. She headed toward the auditorium along with the others. All of the other students were just as confused and curious as the next. One boy had even tried to get by the teacher.

---

The auditorium was full of girls. That may appeal to most guys, but not me. The girl I'm looking for has to be in here somewhere. I just have to find her.

---

Everyone was sitting in the auditorium. Most of them, like me, were talking to their friends sitting next to each other. Me and Stella were sitting near the front. The one thing that did catch my attention was the boy standing next to the principal on the stage. The boy was tapping on the microphone, sending a low, but loud, thud echoing throughout the autditorium. Everyone started to calm down, still continuing with their conversations, but in hushed voices. I, for once, was paying full attention.

---

"Umm, hi. I'm Adam. I'm sixteen years old and I'm here because I'm looking for someone important," I said.
"Then why did you ask the principal to call all of us out of class? Just so you can tell us that?!" someone shouted.
I flinched.
"No, the reason I asked Principal Clarke to ask you to come down, is-" I sneezed mid-sentence.
"Bless you!" someone else shouted. I barely heard it.

---

I don't know why I said it, but I did. Two simple words.
"Bless you!" I shouted, after he sneezed.
I don't think he heard me, but I hope he did.

---

"Then why are we here?!" The girl shouted again.
"Because, when I was about twelve or thirteen years old, I met this girl..." I began.

---

It was on a New Year's Eve night. It was me and three other kids. My friends Joey and Emily, and one other girl whose name I could never remember. I had known Joey and Emily a long time and the girl, I hadn't met her since that night. We had gotten along pretty well, and it was almost as if we had been friends for the longest, considering we had just met.

The adults were having dinner at Emily's house while we hung out at mine. Yea, we lived in the same neighborhood. We were sitting on the roof of the small shed in my backyard. Don't ask how we got up there, I can't even remember. Emily and Joey would come over all the time and what we'd do is sit up on that roof and just talk. Sometimes, we even jumped off. It's not that high off the ground, but if you land wrong, you might get hurt. I was pretty good at landing on my feet. I landed mostly every single time I jumped. For this, Joey secretly though I was a ninja. Who knows? Maybe I am, haha. Anyway, the girl (I can never remember her name, no matter how hard I try) heard Joey and Emily talking about it.
"Really?" she asked.
"Really, what?" I said.
"You can really jump down off of here?"
"Oh. Yeah, I guess I can."
"Can I see? Can I see you jump?" She sounded like she was eager with excitement.
"Sure," I said.
I don't know why, but after hearing her ask, I got nervous.
What if i mess up? I thought. Not in front of her. I don't want to fall on my butt or something. I sat on the edge of the roof, putting my thoughts behind. I slowly slid off the edge. And then, just as I landed, I knew I landed wrong. Pain shot through my ankle. I lay in the grass, clutching it in my hands, against my chest.
"Oh my gosh, are you ok?" She sounded worried.
"I'm fine. I just think i might have sprained my ankle," I replied. It was like she didn't hear me.
"Mannnnnnnnnnn," she sighed. "I shouldn't have told you to jump."
"It's fine. I kind of wanted to anyway."
"I'm Sorry," was all she said.
"It's ok." was all I said, before we went inside.

We watched a movie. It was called
Seabiscuit I think. My make-shift crutch leaned against the sofa's armrest. It was just a stick that Joey found and it was about my height. Joey broke it so I could use it to lean against, basically making a make-shift crutch. The girl's mom came in and asked if she wanted to go watch the fireworks. She asked her mom if we could come with her, but her mom said that our parents wanted us to stay inside. The girl told her mom "nevermind" and went back to watching the movie.

When the movie was over, everyone had to go home. It was a New Year and all the adults were tired. In fact, everyone was tired. Well, except that one girl. It was as if she could stay up for another two hours. When we went outside to go find our parents, someone grabbed my arm. It was her. She waited for Emily and Joey to pass.
"You didn't have to jump you know," she said.
"I wanted to," I replied.
"Yeah, I guess. But if I hadn't have said anything, you wouldn't be hurt," her voice sounded tired. She even looked tired now, too.
"I told you already, It's fine. I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" she asked.
"Yup," I said.
She opened her mouth to say something else, when something hopped out of the bushes.
"Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhh," Joey said. " Adam and (I'm upset, I still don't remember her name) sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-" and before he finished, I hit him on the back of his head. I didn't mean to hit him too hard, but he asked for it. The girl blushed the slightest bit, but I still noticed.
"Ow!" he said.
I shrugged. Joey stomped back to go find his parents again. She followed after him, to go find her own. She stopped halfway and turned around.
"It was nice meeting you," she said.
"Yeah, you too. Hope to see you around someday," I said.
She smiled and walked away.

But I never saw her again. My parents told me the next day that we were moving to Canada. I had asked why, but all they said was that it was business related.

Over the years I had always remembered her smile. Her smile was so simple but it had brightened my mood that night. I had forgotten all about my ankle when she had smiled. I never forget it. I remember her black hair, down to her shoulders and I remember her dark brown eyes. If you payed close enough attention, her hair almost matched her eyes. She had the most beautiful eyes. She had the slightest bit of red in her cheeks that never went away, it was like a permanent blush. But when she did blush, you could hardly notice. I barely noticed that night when she did, but I had. She was the most beautiful person I had ever met. She was..

---

"you," he said. I stopped talking and looked away from Stella. I turned to see the boy, Adam, looking at me, his eyes getting wider each second. Then it hit me.

The memory of that night. Of that New Year's Eve night. When she had met the nicest boy she had ever seen, and the cutest. She blushed at the thought.

Now I know why I recognized him. Now I know why I had said "bless you" when he sneezed. I was the one he was talking about. The girl. The girl who had worried about him when he got hurt. The girl that thought it was her fault. Everyone was staring at me, but I didn't care. I got up and walked to the stage. I stood right in front of him. He pulled me toward him. It was the safest I had ever felt in someone's arms. I hugged him back.

The whole auditorium had erupted in "AWWWW's." I blushed. It was as if someone was standing on stage holding up a sign that said "AWWW" on it, like in those TV shows.

I couldn't stop smiling.
He came looking for me even though I forgot him.
And when he found me, I didn't want him to leave again.
I was happy.

---

I let go of her and asked, "What is your name?"
"Phoebe," she replied. She was smiling.
"Phoebe," I repeated, sighing, seeing how her name wrapped around my lips as I said it. "Phoebe."
the characters are made up, and this never happened to me.
well, sorta.
when i was at least ten or eleven i did meet a boy who was nice and cute and did hurt himself by jumping off a roof. that's where the idea came from.

and in 'untitled.' the guy's name is Adam too. they are not the same person, i just like the name Adam. =P
